Awsworth

Awsworth once had a station on the Great Northern (later LNER) line from Nottingham to Derby which crossed the Erewash Valley to Ilkeston over the Bennerley Viaduct, closed in September 1964. At Awsworth Junction, a short distance to the east, a branch line curved away northwards to Pinxton. This line closed in January 1963. Near the junction it crossed a viaduct almost half a mile in length across the Giltbrook valley, known variously as Awsworth Viaduct, Giltbrook Viaduct, Kimberley Viaduct, but more commonly in the local area as the "Forty Bridges," though the actual combined number of arches and girder spans was 43. This viaduct is no more, but the Bennerley Viaduct is still in place.

Bennerley Viaduct

Bennerley Viaduct is a disused railway viaduct spanning the Erewash Valley between Awsworth in Nottinghamshire and Ilkeston in Derbyshire.

Field Mill

After plans to relocate to a new all-seater stadium were scrapped, work began in July 1999 to completely modernise Field Mill. The North Stand, Quarry Lane End and West Stand were completely demolished and new stands built in their place, including a two tier stand on the west side of the ground. The redeveloped all-seater stadium was officially opened by John Prescott on 28 July 2001, six months after work had been completed.

Mansfield

Buses in Mansfield are primarily operated by Stagecoach, with Trent Barton, Veolia Transport (Dunn-Line) and National Express also operating in the area. All the operators are investing in transport, with leather seats and air con now becoming a familiar sight. The town's bus station is often cited as one of the worst places in England to spend time waiting for transport.[citation needed] Planning permission has been given to develop a new bus station on the station road car park which is estimated to cost £7 million.[6][7] The bus station, built in 1977, handles around 1,500 buses and 16,000 passenger arrivals a day. It is the busiest bus station in the county but does not offer an attractive waiting environment and has poor pedestrian links to the town centre.

Butterley Tunnel

"The Friends of Cromford Canal" is a group of volunteers whose aim is to fully restore the Cromford Canal and the Butterley Tunnel. A horse drawn narrowboat is brought into service by "The Friends of Cromford Canal" occasionally on the only navigable section of the Cromford Canal near to the Derbyshire village of Cromford itself.[8]
