A ?Stinson Bros? Codd Bottle appears among lots listed for auction in Barnsley (BBR Auctions) on Saturday 8 January 2006. It is described as: 9 ins tall, emerald green glass codd bottle. Embossed, ?STINSON BROS/WHITWICK.? The guide price was £80 - £100, presumably due to the rarity of the glass. Astonishingly, this bottle realised £515! This particular bottle was turned up by a plough in a field opposite A.W.Waldrum?s Coal Merchant's premises on Grace Dieu Road, Whitwick and is the only known example.
Until 1875, the building acted as a 'chapel of ease' to Whitwick and was served by curates under the jurisdiction of the Whitwick vicars. Thringstone became an independent ecclesiastical parish on October 29, 1875, since which time there have been eight incumbents. It is interesting to note that, whereas historically, the church at Thringstone came under the cure of the mother church at Whitwick (retaining the title, Whitwick Saint Andrew-cum-Thringstone until the 1980s), a recent merging of Thringstone with Whitwick to form a united benefice has resulted in the Vicar of Thringstone (Alan Burgess) also becoming Vicar of Whitwick.
Historically the Birchills Branch of the Wyrley and Essington ran from Sneyd Junction to Bloxall Wharf, north-west of Walsall. When the Wryley and Essington Extension Canal was authorised, it ran from Birchills Junction on the Birchills Branch to Huddlesford: most of the Birchills Branch was effectively subsumed into the new mainline of the Wyrley and Essington. Thus the junction was with what became the mainline of the Wyrley and Essington, and the stub branch to Bloxall Wharf.
Pelsall Junction (grid reference SK018044) is the southern limit of the Cannock Extension Canal where it meets the Wyrley and Essington Canal main line, near Pelsall, West Midlands, England.
Bloxwich has in recent years completed numerous redevelopment projects - Bloxwich police station, which also has responsibility for Willenhall and Darlaston, the new market square and job centres are examples.
