Kettering Borough Council

Kettering Borough Council is a local authority in Kettering Borough, composed of 45 local councillors and currently controlled by the Conservatives, who have controlled the Council since the 2003 local elections, where they gained control from Labour with a majority of 15. Having retained control in the 2007 local elections, the Council is currently led by Cllr. Jim Hakewill.

Mawsley

Mawsley was first planned in 1993 by Northamptonshire County Council, and construction began in 2001. The village is very nearly complete, with a school, doctors surgery and village hall all provided by the developers. Further research has revealed that Mawsley was built on the site of on older village called Mawsley, which vanished around the time of the Black Death[citation needed] A Roman villa was found nearby, as well as other archeological evidence. When the village was planned, a site was set aside for the building of a Public House. The site has recently (as of July 2006) been sold to a company to build and run the pub.

Kettering

Kettering is home to Kettering Rugby Football Club (KRFC), located in Waverley Road on the eastern side of the town.[33] The earliest available records indicate that the playing of Rugby Football in Kettering was initiated by the Rector of Barton Seagrave village in 1871.[citation needed] After a period of playing under Uppingham Public School Rules the club formally adopted RFU rules in 1875 and quickly became a significant participant in both the local community and the fast-developing Rugby scene in the East Midlands. In the early days games were played on a number of sites including farmers' fields and council-owned grounds. It was during this period, prior to adopting a home of their own, that the club developed its high profile in the town. Social occasions and players "meetings" were held traditionally at the Royal Hotel, later moving to the George, with more formal occasions such as the Annual Ball becoming the highlight of the local function calendar. KRFC currently plays in the Midlands 1st Division.

Sherwood Observatory

The telescope has stepper motor drive control with an electrical focusser. The dome is electrically driven and will move automatically as the telescope tracks across the sky. Various cameras can be attached to the telescope to record images and video and display what the telescope sees on a 2 metre wide projector screen in the lecture theatre from where the telescope can be controlled.
