Magic Roundabout (Colchester)The Colchester roundabout lacks the intermediate traffic islands found in Swindon, but nonetheless it is possible to traverse around the large inner roundabout in clockwise or an anti/counter-clockwise direction as desired.Colchester CastleThe castle has had various uses since it ceased to be a Royal castle. It has been a county prison, where in 1645 the self-styled Witchfinder General, Matthew Hopkins interrogated and imprisoned suspected witches. In 1648, during the final stages of the English Civil War, the Royalist leaders Sir Charles Lucas and Sir George Lisle were executed just to the rear of the castle. Local legend has it that grass will not grow on the spot on which they fell. A small obelisk now marks the point. In 1656 the Quaker James Parnell was martyred there.Hythe (Essex) railway stationDuring the summer of 2008 the girder bridge was removed, although the concrete plinths are still in situ. During September 2008 work started on extending both platforms at Hythe, to accommodate 12-car train sets and so permit all trains on the Clacton/Walton branch to stop here without blocking the level crossing at the end of the station. As part of this work the north side siding was removed, and the pointwork and a short section of track leading to the south side sidings was also removed. Further trackwork leading to the girder bridge remains (October 2008) but will surely be removed when the platform extension work is further progressed.Upminster Bridge tube stationUpminster Bridge tube station is a London Underground station on Upminster Road in the Upminster Bridge neighbourhood of the London Borough of Havering in northeast London, England. The station is on the District line and is the penultimate station on the eastern extremity of that line. The station was opened on 17 December 1934 by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway on the local electrified tracks between Upminster and Barking that were constructed in 1932. The main station building is of a distinctive polygonal design.[2] It has low usage for a suburban station with 0.93 million entries and exits during 2008.[1]Upminster WindmillLancashire:Merseyside: Bidston ˘ WavertreeInformation by Wikipedia.com
