Hawkwell is a village and civil parish in the district of Rochford in Essex, England. The 2001 census gave a population for the parish of 11,231.
Southend is served by two lines. Running from Southend Victoria north out of the town is the Liverpool Street line, a branch of the Great Eastern Main Line operated by National Express East Anglia. The service operates to London Liverpool Street via Prittlewell, Rochford, Hockley, Rayleigh, Wickford, Billericay, Shenfield and Stratford. Southend Airport station is under construction and is due to open in December 2010. This is situated between Prittlewell and Rochford and will be an additional stop for trains to and from Southend Victoria.
In April 2006, signs were erected which say "Southend East for Southchurch Village" to better reflect its geographical location in the Southchurch area which it serves.[1][2]
The site now occupied by Roots Hall is where Southend United had originally played their home games on their formation in 1906. Upon the outbreak of the First World War the area was designated for storage and Southend were forced out. After the war the club elected to move to a new ground at the Kursaal and Roots Hall became a tipping site.
Hadleigh Castle (grid reference TQ810860) in the English county of Essex overlooks the Thames estuary from a ridge to the south of the town of Hadleigh. Built in the 1230s[1] during the reign of King Henry III, the structure is the most important late-medieval castle in Essex and is now preserved by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building. The ruins of the castle are the most prominent historical landmark in the local surrounding area and provided part of the name for the newly formed borough of Castle Point in 1974.
