Southend-on-SeaThe town's 'Per Mare Per Ecclesiam' translates into 'By the Sea and By the Church', reflecting Southend's position between the church at Prittlewell and the sea as in the Thames estuary. The town is twinned with the resort of Sopot in Poland. Sopot has the longest wooden pier in Europe, Southend the longest iron pleasure pier in the world.Southend East railway stationThe ticket office, located on Platform 1 for trains to London Fenchurch Street, has one serving position and uses the TRIBUTE ticket issuing system.Roots HallThe East stand is the main stand at Roots Hall, running along one side of the pitch. Originally designed as a section of seating with paddocks of terracing below, it was converted to an all seater stand in the 1990s. The stand also contains executive boxes and, in the back, the Club offices. The dugouts are cut into the stand, covered by the main roof. The stand was originally much smaller and evidence of its extension along the touchline can be seen in the density of moss on the roof.Hadleigh CastleHadleigh Castle (grid reference TQ810860) in the English county of Essex overlooks the Thames estuary from a ridge to the south of the town of Hadleigh. Built in the 1230s[1] during the reign of King Henry III, the structure is the most important late-medieval castle in Essex and is now preserved by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building. The ruins of the castle are the most prominent historical landmark in the local surrounding area and provided part of the name for the newly formed borough of Castle Point in 1974.Northey IslandThe whole island and part of the bank near the causeway are now a Nature Reserve. It is uninhabited apart from the warden.Information by Wikipedia.com
