Tips for Moving Valuable Possessions
Published on Tuesday, 29 December 2009 An important aspect of any move is the protection of your valuables. This does not include only your jewellery, but also your many fragile and expensive possessions. Here are some tips for safely moving all these possessions. 1. Make sure you choose expert movers. Check their references to be sure they are capable of moving all your possessions. It is better to choose movers who carry your possessions in climate-controlled trucks fitted with shock absorbers to minimise road vibration. 2. Find out how long the trip will take, what security measures the movers use and of course, ensure the movers have sufficient insurance to cover the value of your possessions. 3. It is better to ideograph than photograph your possessions. Ideographs capture your possessions in various angles. This can serve as a proof if you need to make an insurance claim. Make sure this video is then kept safe in a bank vault. 4. Pack your jewellery and other documents yourself. Leave the packing of your other possessions to movers. 5. For added protection to porous materials like ceramics, apply a coat of lacquer over them before the move. Do the same with your automobiles, metal ware and textiles to prevent corrosion. 6. It is better to use museum quality crates instead of cardboard cartons to pack your valuables as they are shock, water and tamper proof. Use your computer and stereo's original storage boxes during a move as they are designed to safely carry the pieces. Last, but not least, half-filled crates and cartons have to be filled with packing money to ensure that possessions remain intact during the move.
