If you are due for a move, it's important that you declutter your home. If you are only renting, you need the place to be clean and tidy so you can get the security deposit in full. If you own the house and you are putting it on sale, it's even more important to have it spic and span, and ready for viewing. Getting rid of the clutter would also mean you will have less to pack. This will mean savings on packing materials and on transportation costs.   To ensure that you actually go through with it, you have to schedule a time just for taking care of the clutter. If you have kids at the house all the time, you should find a way for them to get away for a few hours so you can accomplish what you have set to do. You could call a babysitter and let them take a stroll or a picnic at the park. You could also ask your spouse to take them out for an ice cream.   Be prepared before you start the task, have garbage bags ready. You should also have boxes ready so items to be donated would be ready. Recycling bins would come handy too. A shredder is also important for destroying bills and bank statements from years ago. Declutter the house systematically too. Start from one room to the next so you will see your accomplishment and you will not forget to clean one area. When you finish decluttering, you would have an easier time organizing your packing. You could even raise some money if you sell your unwanted items.
