Wylam

Wylam (pronounced /Ë?wɪlÉ?m/) is a small village about 10 miles (16 km) west of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is located in the county of Northumberland.

Ovingham

There was a dyehouse at Ovingham, and in 1828 William Bullock was the foreman. Both Thomas Bewick and George Stephenson had relatives who were dyers. One of Bewick's woodcuts is entitled the Dyers of Ovingham. Two men are carrying a large tub on a pole. Mabel Stephenson, George's mother, was a daughter of an Ovingham dyer named Richard Carr. There were weavers in Ovingham, but one man, George Dobson, is described as a "tidewaiter", and I wonder what he did.[1]

Willington Quay

Willington Quay is an area in the borough of North Tyneside in Tyne and Wear in northern England. It is situated on the north bank of the River Tyne, facing Jarrow, and between Wallsend and North Shields. It is served by the Howdon Metro station in Howdon.

Willington, Tyne and Wear

The place-name derives from Old English tun (homestead or farm) of Wifel's people, and appears in 1085 as Wiflintun, and as Wiuelington in 1204.[1]

Stephenson Railway Museum

The museum opened in 1986 to commemorate local railway pioneers George and Robert Stephenson, and to provide a permanent home for the museums rail transport collections. It is on the site of the former Tyne and Wear Metro test track.
