The Bay Hotel, an important local landmark, was demolished in 2005. It is notable for a period in the 1880s when it was home to the American watercolour artist Winslow Homer who stayed in room 17 of the Hudleston Arms (1870) (later called the Bay Hotel), and maintained a studio across the road at No.12 Bank Top (demolished 1930). Homer was a resident in Cullercoats for approximately 18 months, from late March 1881 to early November 1882. An apartment block, named Winslow Court, has been built on the site of the Bay Hotel (2007).
The club has plans to merge with Tynemouth Men's Hockey Club, which currently has 5 teams and a junior section, to become the largest hockey club in the North East. This merger is planned to happen at the end of this 2006/2007 season and should be the start of another chapter in the club's long history

The emissions of the power plant connected to the smelter were another concern for the environment. In April 2010, the European Court of Justice decided[1] that, in contrary to the claim of the UK Government, the power plant was subject to the emission limit values laid down in the 2001 directive on large combustion plants (2001/80/EC)[2]. The place-name derives from Old English tun (homestead or farm) of Wifel's people, and appears in 1085 as Wiflintun, and as Wiuelington in 1204.[1]
