BAE Systems Submarine Solutions

It operates one of the few Shipyards in the world capable of building nuclear submarines, which has constructed all of the Royal Navy's nuclear-powered submarines since the commissioning of HMS Dreadnaught in 1963 (with the exception of HMS Conqueror, built by Cammell Laird). The Barrow-in-Furness shipyard has also been building submarines since the Holland class submarine first entered service with the Royal Navy in 1903.

Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Ltd

The Company was founded in 1871 by James Ramsden as the Iron Shipbuilding Company, but its name was soon changed to Barrow Shipbuilding Company.[1]

Barrow-in-Furness

Barrow/Walney Island Airport operates two Beechkraft Kingair 250 aircraft which fly to various destinations every weekday, including Manchester, Bristol and Blackpool. It is owned and operated by BAE Systems (IATA airport code: BWF, ICAO: EGNL). The longest runway is almost 4,000 feet long. It is one of two airports in the county, the other being Carlisle Airport (which alongside Barrow once served as a commercial domestic airport). The nearest international airport is Blackpool International Airport, although most people from Barrow use the larger Liverpool and Manchester airports.

Prenton Park

The Main stand is the oldest stand at Prenton Park, having been built in the 1960s. A two tier stand, it is generally divided into 3 main sections. The lower tier consists of the Bebington End paddock (capacity 1,122 + 28 disabled spaces) and the Town End paddock (capacity 1,209), either side of the halfway line. The upper tier is simply referred to as the Main Stand (capacity 3,598). The future of the Main stand is under discussion as the 40-year-old structure is becoming increasingly expensive to repair.[5]

Lady Lever Art Gallery

Set in the attractive garden village of Port Sunlight, Merseyside, England, also created by Lord Lever, the gallery is famous for its British 18th century and 19th century paintings, 18th century furniture and an outstanding collection of Wedgwood.[2]
