Portree (Scottish Gaelic: Port Rėgh, pronounced [pʰɔrˠʃtˈ̪ɾiː]) is the largest town on Skye in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland.[2] It is the location for the only secondary school on the Island, Portree High school. Public transport services are limited to buses.Portree has a harbour, fringed by cliffs, with a pier designed by Thomas Telford. Attractions in the town include the Āros centre which celebrate the island\'s Gaelic heritage. The town also serves as a centre for tourists exploring the island. The Royal Hotel is the site of MacNab\'s Inn, the last meeting place of Flora MacDonald and Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1746.
The town plays host to the Isle of Skye\'s shinty club, Skye Camanachd
In 2007, the Chief Minister and the UK Lord Chancellor signed an agreement[10] which established a framework for the development of the international identity of Jersey. The agreement stated that:
Ardrossan Castle is situated upon a rocky hill, which gives it its name, made up of ard, meaning height, and rossan, a rocky promontory. The present ruins are on the site of an earlier castle owned by the Barclay family. By the thirteenth century it had passed to the Ardrossan family.
The station consisted of two side platforms connected by a footbridge and with a small building on each side. By 1956 the footbridge and the building on the eastboard platform had been removed, however the westbound building remained intact albeit derelict.[2] By the late 1960s only the overgrown platforms remained.[3]
