The small village of Springfield (population less than 1000) lies at the edge of the Howe of Fife, to the south of the town of Cupar, Fife, Scotland. The origin of the community is thought to be from the linen industry in the 19th century. The Church of Scotland parish church was built in 1861 (and now shares a minister with nearby Ceres and Kemback). The church garden was originally intended to be a cemetery, but the high water table prevented this. The community is surrounded by fields; agriculture is still an important part of the economy of north east Fife (although few Springfield residents work in agriculture).
Kirkcaldy High School is a comprehensive state school in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland.
From 1886 to 1977 the school operated on from its primary site on Main Street, Stenhousemuir. However rising school rolls throughout the 1950s saw extensions added to the main building and the moving of departments. In November 1977 a new extension to the school was opened at Carrongrange around half a kilometre from the Main Street campus. In September 1996 the Carrongrange Building was itself extended with the English and Mathematics departments as well as the school library, moving into a new purpose built extension.
Considered by many to be one of Scotland's finest museums, the Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery was donated in 1925 (by Nairn's benefactor, John Nairn the grandson of Michael Nairn), contains a notable collection of paintings by the Scottish Colourists and a permanent display of the town's industrial heritage.[64][65] The nearby Adam Smith Theatre on Bennochy Road which opened in 1899 by Andrew Carnegie, was also gifted to the town by linen manufacturer and town provost, Michael Beveridge to preserve the legacy of Adam Smith on the 100th anniversary of his death.[66][67][68] The theatre is the home of the annual Fife Festival of Music and Fife Opera, as well as Kirkcaldy Amateur Dramatic Society, Kirkcaldy Amateur Operatic Society, and the Kirkcaldy Gilbert and Sullivan Society.[69][70]
Also nearby the mouth of the river is Bayview Stadium, home to 2nd Division East Fife Football Club.
