King's Head Inn, AylesburyThe Solar room, built directly above the Great Hall was the master bedroom and, according to local folklore, it was the suite where King Henry VIII wooed Anne Boleyn in 1533.[5][7] It is claimed that Oliver Cromwell stayed at the King's Head in 1651 after the Battle of Worcester[7] and received the thanks of Parliament in Market Square, although there is no evidence for this. However if Cromwell did stay here, this is the room that he would have stayed in. Flintlock pistols and swords were found earlier in the 20th Century in a 'priest hole' and suggest that Roundhead troops were at one time garrisoned at the property. The roof is Victorian except for the original tie beam and Queen post frame in the back wall. The room was originally accessed from the ground floor by a newel stair, which is a spiral staircase inside a tower.Broughton CrossingIt takes its name from a long-vanished level crossing where the road crossed the now-defunct Cheddington to Aylesbury Line a branch line connecting the West Coast Main Line at Cheddington and Aylesbury. It consists of a public house and a few private houses, the easterly part of the former railway has been made into a road. It is a distinct settlement separated from Broughton itself by the Aylesbury Arm of the Grand Union Canal.AylesburyChurch Street, AylesburyThameThe English Civil War in the 1640s saw Thame occupied in turn by both Royalists and Parliamentarians. After the Battle of Chalgrove Field John Hampden, who had been educated at the Grammar School, died of his wounds at the house of Ezekiel Browne[6], later to become the Greyhound Inn. Some of Hampden's descendants still live in the town.Pavis WoodThe summit plateau lies less than 3 miles from the border of Buckinghamshire and part of the Aylesbury Vale which contains the Buckinghamshire county top Haddington Hill 267 m (876 ft). It is linked to Haddington Hill by a high ridge which gives this hill a mere 5 metres of relative height.Information by Wikipedia.com
