Cotchford Farm, Hartfield was the home of A.A. Milne (1882?1956), author of the Winnie the Pooh books, from where many of his books are set; later it was owned by Brian Jones the guitarist and founder of The Rolling Stones who was discovered dead in the pool in 1969. There is a shop in the village dedicated to all things connected with the Winnie the Pooh stories.[3]
To celebrate the millennium in Withyham, the vicar at that time Richard Parish planted a yew sapling taken from a tree said to be 2000 years old ? ie from the time of Christ. Sadly, the sapling was uprooted by vandals. A millennium map was also commissioned by the Church to commemorate almost 1000 years of Withyham.
Buxted is a village and civil parish in the Wealden District of East Sussex in England. The parish is situated on the Weald, north of Uckfield; the settlements of Five Ash Down, Heron's Ghyll and High Hurstwood are included within its boundaries. At one time its importance lay in the Wealden iron industry, later to become commercially important in the poultry and egg industry.[2]
There are 14 members on the Maresfield Parish Council, which has its offices in Nutley.[4]
The Monson Swimming Club competes in swimming, diving and water polo and is based at the Tunbridge Wells Sports Centre. Former Monson Member[citation needed] Joanne Rout, née Round, took part in the 1988 Paralympics aged just 12, winning three silver medals, and as of 2010 remains the youngest ever British paralympian.[43] A plaque can be found located in the club's trophy display.
