Both the Queen and the Minister of Supply sent messages of condolences, and jets at air shows were obliged to keep at least 230 m (750 ft) from crowds if flying straight and 450 m (1,480 ft) when performing manoeuvres and always at an altitude of at least 150 m (490 ft).[2] The accident report of 8 April 1953 stated the maneuvering had caused an airframe instability due to a faulty D-nose leading edge arrangement (which had successfully been used in the lighter subsonic de Havilland Vampire). The redesigned DH.110 resumed flights in June 1953 and was eventually developed into the successful de Havilland Sea Vixen naval fighter.[4]
The company's first CEO, John Weston, was forced to resign in 2002 in a boardroom "coup" and was replaced by Mike Turner.[102]The Business reported that Weston was ousted when non-executive directors informed the Chairman that they had lost confidence in him. Further, it was suggested that at least one non-executive director was encouraged to make such a move by the MOD due to the increasingly fractious relationship between BAE and the government.[103] As well as the terms of the Nimrod contract, Weston had fought against the MOD's insistence that one of the first three Type 45 destroyers should be built by VT Group. The Business said he considered this "competition-policy gone mad".[104]

Sonning Cutting is a well-known location for viewing trains because of its impressively steep sides. It can be viewed from a number of bridges and is on the border between Sonning and the Reading suburb of Woodley, just off the A4 trunk road.
Original buildings have been retained and updated, including a £1m refurbishment of the existing Bob Kayley Studio building (named after the first Head of Film and Drama at Bulmershe College) into a fully fitted 90 seater theatre also open to the public.[citation needed] The former Bridges Hall space was converted into a lecture theatre. And several new student halls of residence have been built on the site as part of the new Bulmershe Hall. One of the original halls continues to bear the name Blagrave in testament to the long history of buildings on the site.
