Sevenoaks Vine was a famous venue for major cricket matches in the 18th century and is notable for being the first place in England where cricket was played with three stumps rather than two. Its earliest known use was for Kent v Sussex on Friday 6 September 1734, a game which Kent won [1].
Platform 3- All trains to Tunbridge Wells, Hastings, Ashford International and Ramsgate.
Chipstead, is a small village in the parish of Chevening, near Sevenoaks, Kent and just off the A21 and A25 roads. It is rapidly becoming part of the built up area of Sevenoaks. It is also within a short distance of the M25 motorway, though not visible from it.
The station is 14.7 miles from London Victoria. (A survey marker on the platform shows the distance as 14 miles and 59 chains, or 23.72 km.)
The site was discovered in 1926, when workmen were preparing a driveway for some new council offices, and unearthed some Roman artefacts. Preliminary archaeological investigations at the time established the existence of the villa, but the site was not fully investigated until 1988, when further work was carried out by the Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit (KARU). Details of their findings were published in appropriate journals.[citation needed] The site is protected within a modern building.
