London bus routes 183, H11, H12 and H13 serve the station's location and provides services that terminate at Golders Green, Mount Vernon Hospital, Northwood Hills, Ruislip, South Harrow and Stanmore.[7] The H12 route also connects Pinner tube station to Hatch End railway station, which was originally named Pinner & Hatch End between 1911 and 1920 before being renamed Hatch End (for Pinner) and then finally in 1956 to Hatch End.[8]Northwood Hills tube station is 2.08 kilometres (1.29 mi) to the north west and North Harrow is 1.48 kilometres (0.92 mi) to the south east on the Metropolitan line.[9]

On 1 March 1910, an extension of the District Line from South Harrow to connect with the Metropolitan Railway at Rayners Lane was opened enabling District Line trains to serve stations between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge from that date. On 23 October 1933 District Line services were replaced by Piccadilly Line trains. The station was rebuilt in the early 1930s to a design by Charles Holden which features the large cube-shaped brick and glass ticket hall capped with a flat reinforced concrete roof and geometrical forms typical of the new stations built in this period.
After the war a shortage of funds and the introduction of the Metropolitan Green Belt lead to the cancellation of the unfinished Northern line elements of the "New Works Programme" in 1950. The extension of the line to Bushey Heath was no longer viable as the new housing developments that it would have stimulated and served could no longer be constructed on land designated as Green Belt. Additionally, without the extended line, the completion of the work between Edgware and Mill Hill East was no longer needed. The only station on that section of the line was Mill Hill (The Hale) and passengers from Mill Hill could easily use the nearby Mill Hill Broadway station on the London Midland and Scottish Railway to travel into London.
The station is in Station Road, Edgware (part of the A5100). This road runs north-east from the High Street (A5), and the station is about 500 metres from the A5 on the right (south-east) side. The building is set back from the road, and there is a circular service road between the building and the road to allow cars to pull in and pick up or set down.
