A mere hour-and-a-half before the departure of BE 548, its rostered captain, Stanley Key, was involved in a quarrel in the BEA crew room at Heathrow?s Queen?s Building with a First Officer named Flavell. The subject of Key's outburst was the threatened strike which Flavell supported and Key opposed. Both of Key's flight deck crew members on BE 548 witnessed the altercation, and another bystander described Key?s outburst as "the most violent argument he had ever heard".[5] Shortly afterwards Key apologised to Flavell and the matter seemed closed.[6] Key?s robustly anti-strike views had won him enemies in the weeks before the accident, and graffiti directed personally against him had appeared on the flight decks of BEA Tridents, including Papa India.[nb 1] The graffiti found on Papa India's P3 desk was analysed by a handwriting expert during the investigation to determine who might have written it. It was not positively determined who might have created it, and the public inquiry members eventually dismissed it as irrelevant.[8][nb 2]
In 1894, the Local Government Act 1894 created the Staines Urban District of Middlesex. In 1965, under the London Government Act 1963, most of the rest of Middlesex became part of Greater London while Staines Urban District was transferred to Surrey. In 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, the Staines Urban District was abolished and its area combined with that of the former Sunbury-on-Thames Urban District to form the present-day borough of Spelthorne.
The bridge carries the South West Trains Waterloo to Reading Line and the London Waterloo to Weybridge service (via the Chertsey Branch) and lies between Staines and Egham stations. The bridge was completed in 1856.[2]
In 2006 Woking was the setting for the only UK-based episode of The CW Plus television programme Cheaters. In the 'UK Special' episode of the normally North Texas-based show television's Joey Greco investigates the unfaithful behavior of a married man from Goldsworth Park.
