Asthall

The Church of England parish church of Saint Nicholas[3] was enlarged in about 1160, when the north aisle and north transept were added to an earlier church.[4] The north transept arch and the arcade between the nave and north aisle are in the Transitional style between Norman architecture and Early English Gothic.[4] The chancel was rebuilt in the 13th century in the Early English style. The west window of the north aisle is in the early Decorated Gothic style of the late 13th century.[5] There is another Decorated style window on the south side of he nave.[5] In about 1350 the north transept was remodelled and its roof height increased above that of the nave.[5] After this the remaining windows were added in the Perpendicular Gothic style.[5] The bell tower was built in the 15th century.[5] The church was restored in 1885, and the chancel arch was probably rebuilt at this time.[4] The tower has a ring of six bells.

RAF Brize Norton

In September 1953, B-47E Stratojet 6-engined bombers deployed to Brize Norton accompanied by KC-97G boom-equipped tankers and were based there until 1955, when repair work began on the runways. B-47 Stratojets returned in July 1957. Later deployments included KC-97 and KC-135 tankers and the first B-58 and B-52B bombers to land in the UK.

Brize Norton

Brize Norton has two public houses: The Chequers and The Masons Arms. Brize Norton has a women's Football Club[6] and a Women's Institute.[7]

Whitesheet Hill

There are some 12 ancient burial mounds (barrows) on the hill dating from 1800 BC. [1]

Bordon

Historically, the town was an important army base with a railway station, as is nearby Aldershot. The camp was first laid out in 1899 by the Highland Light Infantry, directed by Royal Engineers, and following interruption by the Second Boer War, was occupied by the army from 1903. The first occupants of Quebec barracks were the Somersetshire Light Infantry, returning from South Africa in April, and the 2nd Battalion Devonshire Regiment arrived at St. Lucia Barracks from South Africa in June.[1] Bordon Camp was home to the Canadian Army during both of the world wars and the town is dotted with concrete slabs on which tanks and armoured cars were parked. Bordon is now home to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, providing trade training; both basic and supplementary, to its soldiers. The Longmoor Army Ranges, a large forest with tracks and firing ranges, is south of the town. Bordon railway station was linked to both the main railway network, and by light railway to the Longmoor Military Railway. The old track bed at Longmoor, especially between Greatham and Whitehill, is open to be used permissively by walkers and cyclists.
