Many of the city's eastbound buses stop here, and so it is frequently busy with people waiting for their bus. In late 2007, there were a number of crackdowns by the police on cyclists using this street outside the permitted hours, which has been fairly effective at reducing the numbers cycling along it.
The New Theatre Oxford (known for a period as the Apollo Theatre Oxford or simply The Apollo from 1977-2003) is the main commercial theatre in Oxford, England and has a capacity of 1,800 people. It is located in George Street in the centre of the city, and puts on a wide variety of shows, from musical theatre (Annie, West Side Story, and Chicago) to stand-up comedy (Ross Noble, Jimmy Carr, French and Saunders and Ricky Gervais) to gigs (Status Quo, Elkie Brooks, Rufus Wainwright, Motörhead and Mcfly).
Westgate Shopping Centre (locally known as Westgate) is a shopping centre in central Oxford, England. It is located at the west end of Queen Street, where the west gate of the city of Oxford used to be situated. A car park, including a multistory section, is attached to the shopping centre, with access from Oxpens Road. Plans to expand the shopping centre ? tripling it in size ? are well underway, with construction originally planned to start January 2009. However due to the economic downturn in the UK, particularly in the South East, the project has been postponed indefinitely [1] with the possibility that the project will be scrapped. [2]
In August 2008, Chiltern Railways announced a proposal to construct a quarter-of-a-mile link between the East-West line and the Chiltern Main Line, to allow a new Oxford to London service via High Wycombe. The single line between Bicester Town and Oxford will be doubled and a new station will be constructed at Water Eaton Park-and-Ride. It is hoped that, if approval is granted for the scheme, services will start in May 2013.[7]
Bicester Village is the leading outlet shopping destination in Europe[citation needed] and is visited annually by more than 3 million customers from all over the world[citation needed]. It is now established as a major international tourist attraction, despite visitors not being allowed to take photos[citation needed], as well as being the UK?s leading designer outlet village. The shopping centre is located just off the main roundabout which brings the A41 into Bicester, and is next to a large Tesco store and "The Acorn" public house.
