A copper mine at Creddis was a small scale venture in Little Petherick.[6] The shaft at Creddis was no deeper than thirty fathoms (55 m) and employed about forty men. Adjoining Creddis, but in the parish of St Issey, was the copper mine of Legossick. This had a steam engine on it, being a large adventure, it employed many men. There were a few mines of this sort in the area; and one, Wheal Paynter showed a course of lead at twelve fathoms (22 m).[7]
The house is filled with treasures, including royal and family portraits, fine furniture and the Prideaux Porcelain Collection. The recently uncovered ceiling in the Great Chamber is a masterpiece of the Elizabethan plasterer?s art.
Local historians believe that around 650 AD a missionary priest first came to St Merryn. The Parish of 'Sancta Marina' was run from a monastery in Bodmin. The 7th century Saint Merryn (or Meran, or Marina) from Bithynia is surrounded by many legends (including possible links to Merijn, or Merlin, see King Arthur). Léon Clugnet published versions of her legends in nine languages in 1905. Churches in Wales and Brittany are also named after the saint. Despite the legends, sainthood was ratified by Rome in 1338. At the same time a second dedication was made to St Thomas Becket. This dedication did not replace the St Merryn dedication, which remains to this day the name of this church.
Kenwyn (Cornish: Keynwynn) is a civil parish in Cornwall, England, in the United Kingdom. Kenwyn is now regarded as a suburb of the city of Truro and gives its name to one of three rivers that flow through the city.
In September 2008 Hall for Cornwall produced a major new production of The Jew of Malta by Christopher Marlowe: Barabas, which featured a Cornish, national and international cast. With Barabas, Hall for Cornwall returned to the theme of working with a Renaissance text, and followed on from the successful production of Responses in 2007.
