Longdown

Longdown is a small village in the parish of Holcombe Burnell near Exeter in Devon. It is notable for being mentioned in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic Sherlock Holmes novel The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Exminster

Exminster is a village situated on the southern edge of the City of Exeter on the western side of the Exeter ship canal and River Exe in the county of Devon, England. It is around 6 km (3 miles) south of the centre of Exeter, and has a population of 3,084 (census 2001). The rare Cirl Bunting can be found here.[1] Exminster Marshes, to the east of the village, are a major site for birds, especially migratory ones.[2]

Kingsteignton

Kingsteignton was, until recently, purported to be the largest village in England, with a population of over 11,000. In the early 1980s Kingsteignton saw the unwelcome practise of new businesss along Newton Road incorrectly giving their location as Newton Abbot and in 1982 the parish council, spurred on by a comment made by the Clerk to Newton Abbot Council that Newton Abbot would take over Kingsteignton, decided that Kingsteignton should become a town to protect its separate identity. The decision to change its status without any consultation angered many residents and a referendum restored the village status. Kingsteignton became a town once again without any consultation with its residents with effect from January 1, 2009.[2] The greater part of Newton Abbot Racecourse lies within the bounds of Kingsteignton, the remainder being situated within Teigngrace parish. Unfortunately, neither place gets any publicity for being home to the racecourse.
