Beverston is a village and civil parish in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 132. The village is about two miles west of Tetbury. Beverston (also spelled Beverstone) is an example of a typical unaltered Gloucestershire Cotswold village. It is home to Beverston Castle dating to the 12th Century, a Norman Church (worth the walk from the main road, the A4135 road) and some good examples of Cotswold architecture.
Following World War II another notable vicar served the parish. Rev. John Hayter had spent much of the war as a young priest in a the notorious Changi Prison during the Japanese occupation of Singapore, and later wrote of his experiences [2]
After about 1920 considerable infilling took place in the parish and this accelerated in the 1950s and 60s leading to a much increased population that largely seeks its livelihood in the neighbouring towns of Lymington and New Milton. The parish population in 1801 was 446 and by 1931 this had increased by a thousand and it has gone on growing ever since.
