Millfield

The school currently caters for 1,260 pupils, of which 910 are boarders.[1] The school's selection criteria are non-academic and some pupils receive subsidised tuition in the form of scholarships and bursaries; the Millfield Foundation has been set up to raise funds to fund scholarships and bursaries - this is seen as being important to maintain "the Millfield mix" - an important part of school life, where pupils of all backgrounds benefit from being at school together - irrespective of their family's wealth or background.

Sharpham Moor Plot

Sharpham Moor Plot is an area, predominately of secondary woodland, on Turbary Moor Series Peat within the Somerset Moors managed by the Somerset Wildlife Trust. It has considerable value for its research and historic interest. The research value of the plot lies in its being the site of one of the best documented examples of natural succession. Detailed plant records exist from as far back as 1915, and continue up to the present day.[1]

Walton and Ivythorn Hills

Walton and Ivythorn Hills support a complex mosaic of semi-natural habitats which includes unimproved calcareous grassland, dense and scattered scrub and broadleaved woodland. Structural diversity within the habitats, together with the extensive areas of sheltered wood-edge and scrub-edge margins provide ideal conditions for many species of invertebrate. Butterflies, Leafhoppers, Spiders and Soldier Flies are particularly well represented. The Great Green Bush Cricket (Tettigonia viridissima) is also of interest.[1]

Yeovil

The Screwfix company is based in Houndstone having started life as the Woodscrew Supply Company in 1979.[44] However the warehouse was relocated to Stoke-on-Trent following failure to gain planning permission for building expansion.[45]

Yeovil Pen Mill railway station

The station was opened by the Great Western Railway as part of the Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth route on 2 February 1854. The G.W.R. opened a locomotive depot at the station in September 1856, which operated until January 1959, when it was closed and the locomotives transferred to Yeovil Town depot.
