Llanwrda is a parish and a village on the River Towy, in the county of Carmarthenshire, west Wales, 3½ miles (approx. 5.5 kilometers, W. by S.) from Llandovery, in the U.K. The village is served by Llanwrda railway station. This parish is intersected by the A40 road between Llandeilo and Llandovery and stands at the junction of the A482 road to Lampeter and Aberaeron. Nearby are the Dolaucothi Gold Mines.
Dinefwr Castle (anglicized as Dynevor) is a spectacular Welsh castle overlooking the River Tywi near the town. It lies on a ridge on the northern bank of the Tywi, with a steep drop of several hundred feet to the river. Dinefwr was the chief seat of the kingdom of Deheubarth and the seat of Rhys ap Gruffydd, one of the early kings of Wales. The foundations of two Roman forts have been discovered in the grounds of the Dinefwr estate, which is in the custody of the National Trust. The estate of Golden Grove lies near the town, and further away, the impressive Carreg Cennen castle, another Welsh stronghold. The remains of Talley Abbey can be seen six miles away to the north of the town. Ten miles further north are the remains of the Roman gold mines of Dolaucothi, another National Trust property.

Until 1968 Cogan had two additional and separate platforms across the other side of the main Windsor Road, opened twenty years earlier in 1878 and located on the Penarth and Sully branch line, that extended from the Cogan Junction points around the coastline through Lavernock and Sully to where it rejoined the main line at Cadoxton. That through link was closed under the effects of the Beeching Axe and the rail spur now terminates at Penarth.
On Sundays, the service pattern dramatically decreases, with just a two-hourly service. This is only 6 trains per day, at 10:47, 12:47, 14:47, 16:47, 18:47 and 20:47, and they only run as far as Cardiff Central. There are plans, to however, to increase this service to an hourly service.
