Llanbadrig

Portions of the 2006 movie Half Light starring Demi Moore were filmed in Llanbadrig, although the movie is ostensibly set in Scotland.

Cemaes

The village was a commotal[clarification needed] centre for the Prince of Wales before the invasion of Edward I in 1282-3. Dafydd ap Llywelyn, prince of Wales from 1240 to 1246, is recorded as having issued an act at Cemaes in 1238.

Wylfa

A second plant (generally referred to as Wylfa B) has been proposed, in part to provide for the needs of the Anglesey Aluminium smelter located in Holyhead. But the Anglesey Aluminium plant was shut down on 30 September 2009. The company has announced plans for a biomass plant on the site by 2016 for which planning permission has been approved. Wylfa B's proposal has been the subject of much local opposition, led by the group People Against Wylfa B ([PAWB][5] ? "pawb" is Welsh for "everyone"). Substantial works were needed to strengthen the reactors against deteriorating welds discovered in the safety review in April 2000. Amid public controversy, Greenpeace issued an independent safety appraisal [6] by the nuclear engineering consultancy, Large Associates, but the permit to restart operation was given in August 2001. In addition to welding weaknesses, radiolytic depletion of the graphite moderator blocks was still of concern and PAWB continue to campaign for early shut-down of the plant as well as against any nuclear replacement.

Amlwch

It grew rapidly in the 18th century near what was then the world's biggest copper mine at the nearby Parys Mountain. By the late 18th century, Amlwch had a population of around 10,000 and was the second largest town in Wales after Merthyr Tydfil. It was at this time that its harbour was also extended to accommodate the ships needed to transport the ore. It is currently the fourth largest settlement on the island with 3,438 inhabitants.[citation needed]

Llangoed

Llangoed is on the banks of a brook called the Afon Lleiniog, which flows from the hamlet of Glanrafon to the sea, beneath the ruins of an 11 century motte-and-bailey castle, Castell Aberlleiniog.
