Leamington Spa

Leamington is divided by the River Leam running east to west, which is susceptible to flooding, with especially heavy floods in 1998 and 2007.[citation needed]

Radford Semele

In the village there is a pub called The White Lion which is situated on Southam Road the main road running through the village. Unfortunately on Thursday 2 February 2006 the pub caught alight and the pub was ruined causing over 2 million pounds worth of damage.

The Regent Hotel

The first steps towards building the hotel came in 1809 with the purchase of the triangular plot of land to build on, which cost £1,000, quite a sum in those days. The foundation stone was laid some eight years later on 18 July 1818 by the granddaughter of the original landowner. The hotel was officially opened on 19 August 1819. It was during the early years that the hotel had its most famous visitor, Princess Victoria, the future Queen Victoria. In 1830 the princess, age 11, stayed overnight at the hotel with her father.[1] Eight years later from the balcony of the hotel it was announced that Victoria, now Queen, had allowed the prefix Royal on its name, which the town still bears to the day.[2] In these early days the hotel was one of the largest in Europe with over 100 rooms.[3] In these early days the hotel was not just a place where the wealthy tourists stayed whilst 'taking the waters' but it was also an important meeting place for local gentry and landowners, those who were to shape the future of the town.

Southam

The GWR (later British Railways) London to Birmingham main line (the Chiltern Main Line as it is now called) passed three miles southwest of Southam and the nearest station was at Harbury (Southam Road & Harbury). Today, the closest railway station is at Leamington Spa.

Kenilworth

In the early 1980s, the town's name was briefly enhanced by one of the first generation of computer retailers, a company called Kenilworth Computers based near the Clock Tower, when it released a version of the Nascom microcomputer with the selling point that it was robust enough to be used in an agricultural environment.
