KitKat Crescent

Bootham Crescent Holdings PLC was formed in 1999, which saw the club's real property assets, including Bootham Crescent, be transferred to this holding company.[16] In 2002, then chairman John Batchelor said he wanted to move to a new stadium at Clifton Moor and appointed Ian McAndrew as stadium director.[17]Persimmon plc had bought 10% of the shares in Bootham Crescent Holdings, who announced that they had submitted planning applications for 93 homes on the site of Bootham Crescent.[17] York City's lease of the ground was extended to May 2004 and the club proceeded with plans to move to Huntington Stadium,[18] but on 4 February 2004 it was announced in a joint statement that "Agreement has been reached to enable the football club to continue to play at Bootham Crescent for the foreseeable future.".[19] A sponsorship deal with Nestlé in January 2005 saw Bootham Crescent renamed KitKat Crescent,[20] although the ground was still commonly referred to as Bootham Crescent.[21] This arrangement expired in January 2010.[22] The pitch was relaid for the 2007?08 season, as the poor quality of the pitch was believed to be the reason for the team's poor home form the previous season.[2]

Nether Poppleton

In 972, the village was recorded in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles as "Popeltun" and in the Domesday Book as "Popeltune".[1] The villages and lands were given by Osbern De Arches to the Abbot of St Mary's in York. It was, therefore, under the eccliastical rule of the Parish of St Mary-Bishophill Junior.[3]

Skelton, York

The village name probably began as the Anglo-Saxon ?Shelfton? ? ?the settlement on high ground?? becoming the present ?Skelton? under the invading Danes. The village, along with nearby Overton, is mentioned in the Domesday Book.[1]

Ackworth School

Ackworth School's former pupils are called Ackworth Old Scholars. There is an active Old Scholars association[4], with an annual Easter gathering in the school. Notable old scholars include:

Darlington

In 1870, The Northern Echo newspaper was launched. It is based in Priestgate and is a long-standing part of life in the North East. Although a local paper, it is a full-bodied newspaper in its own right and includes national and international news in its scope. William Thomas Stead was the first editor of the Northern Echo. Opposite of the Northern Echo building is The William Stead public house, restaurant and beer garden.
