Places of interest in Mirfield, WF14
From 1894 to 1974, Mirfield formed an urban district of the West Riding of Yorkshire, when it was merged into the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees. It gained a parish council in 1988.
Sporting facilities in Greetland include the "Greetland Community centre", which consists of an indoor multi-purpose pitch, as well as several outdoor natural grass pitches. The venue also has a small bar area that has been voted club of the year 2007 by CAMRA[9]. The community centre is home to the Greetland Goldstars Football Club and Elland Boxers rugby club, which has various teams in different age groups playing in the local junior football leagues. Their motto is "To win fairly and to lose with honour". The Club achieved FA Charter Standard Development Club Status[10]in January 2007.
It was originally a chapelry in the civil parish of Almondbury, and became a separate civil parish in 1866. It became an urban district in 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894. The parish and urban district was abolished under a County Review Order in 1938, being split between the county borough of Huddersfield, the Holmfirth Urban District, and the Meltham urban district.
Odsal Stadium (1934-2006)
It was originally built as a running track in 1931. It was upgraded for football when Bradford Park Avenue moved to the stadium in 1994. The track was upgraded to a synthetic surface at the same time.
